If there’s any time of year that you absolutely should be wearing red lipstick, that time is right now! Deep cherries and rich red wines are the colors you should be gravitating to, not the bright poppy hues from the spring. You want a soft, sultry color. Not only that, but you want a red that will last through all your holiday partying and overindulging. Girl, let me tell you… those high gloss formulas just won’t do. One bite into a slice of gingerbread or one glass of mulled wine and that lipstick is gone. So instead of a makeup disaster, why not go for a dark red matte lip. It’s as sweet as red velvet cake on your mouth.
Now when you look at red lipstick, at first glance you think they’re all the same. Au contraire. Some are red-orange while others have more blue. Some lean toward pink while others seem more burgundy. You’ve got to find that perfect in-between that not only fits the season, but also your complexion. My first venture into winter reds was Dita Von Teese’s Art Deco lipstick No.628. That woman knows how to slay a red lip. The foundation of No. 628 is actually quite magenta, but the other layers are very brown like a hot cinnamon. When the two come together they make a perfect velvety tone. Too bad this was a limited edition color and that Art Deco is only sold in Europe. Next up is Urban Decay’s F-Bomb. This baby has a little sheen but is definitely long-lasting. It glides on very smooth and will stay put through an entire night of dancing and drinking.
