Mauve lipstick is one of the first #fail lipstick colors women of color encountered (and still do) at mass, higher end beauty retailers when they went searching for makeup. Find any 80s or 90s baby and ask her all about the overwhelming excitement she felt when she saw all of the amazing free stuff she could get from Estee Lauder or Clinique if she simply bought a perfume. “Wow! A whole pretty gift bag full of makeup stuff worth over a $100?!” Many of us were suckas for sure. Blinded by the freebies, we were often let down after getting home only to find out that all of the free makeup was really for another target customer–Casper the Ghost. So many mauve lipsticks that did not work on black and brown skin. So many.
Fast forward to today and it’s still a challenge to find a pretty mauve lipstick that caters to a variety of undertones, but we found one in the form of Wet n Wild MegaLast Lip Color Mocha-licious, also known as 914D. Before you go in on us, we know many of you already know about Mocha-licious, but for those of you who didn’t know (a few of us included) we thought this information was worth sharing even though we may be really late to the party.
Mocha-licious a long wear lipstick that comes in at around four hours of wear before you need a touch up. It even lasted through a lunch of sandwiches and green smoothies for us which is great since bread and straws mean instant death to most lipsticks. We got lucky and picked this up on sale for .99 at the drugstore but the regular price is only around $2 if you can catch it in store. You can also get a pack of three since it sells out so often. It’s a beautiful brown based, mauve-y lip color that is perfect for almost all skin tones.
