Drugstore red lipstick is nothing to shake a stick at. Drugstore reds can deliver with beautiful, highly pigmented color and smooth texture pay off comparable to or exceeding what some department store brands offer. Despite the fact that they come shrink wrapped or taped to high heaven (we’ve all had that: Is this a CD or tube of lipstick, because I can’t tell right now, moment), they are worthy of your time and and that extra few minutes trying to get them open without breaking a nail.
These photos speak for themselves so we’ll get right to it. In The Best Drugstore Red Lipsticks Pt. 1 we’re running down some of the best drugstore red lipstick for fair skin tones as well as the best red drugstore lipstick for tan skin tones. In Part 2 we’ll share some of our favorites for medium brown skin tones and in Part 3 some of our favorites for dark skin tones.
Cover Girl ‘Succulent Cherry’ Colorlicious Lipstick
Infused with shea butter this beautiful red lipstick leaves your lips feeling moisturized.
Almay Smart Shade ‘#80 Red-Light/Medium’ Butter Kiss Lipstick
Similar to Revlon Lip Butters but with a sheerer finish and a much more lip balm-y feel, the smart shades are coordinated to your skin tone (light, light-medium and medium). This is a great red for those who like something between a gloss and red lipstick with a sheer finish.
Revlon ‘#840 Poinsettia’ Ultra HD Lipstick
This wax-free and gel based lipstick is so pretty thanks to the pink undertones. From a distance and certain angles you get more pink and from others more red but up close the color is a true pink red.
Maybelline ‘#895 On Fire Red’ Color Sensational Vivids Lipstick
This red is very vivid and the gloss it gives off is on fire. See what we did there?
L’Oreal ‘#337 Refined Ruby’ Infallible Lipstick
This red lasts all day clocking in at around 10 hours of creamy, vivid color pay off without that severely dried out feel that some long wearing lipsticks leave you with. It also has Vitamin E.
Wet N Wild ‘#911D Stoplight Red’ Lipstick
Not exactly long wearing, but you can get about 4 hours of a semi-matte, creme finish wear out of this lipstick before you have to touch up. We also love that it does not bleed.
