In news that’s bound to mess with your head, sleeping can kill you and green tea can may make you struggle to conceive. (Insert wailing emoji here. Why Lord? Why?!)
In a new study from the University of Sydney, researchers found that sleeping more than nine hours a day can turn your leisurely stroll to towards death into a full on Usain Bolt sprint. In addition to all the other things we do to kill ourselves and destroy our bodies like eating kale, smoking, eating crap food and drinking too much, sleeping poses a risk if you abuse it. Over six years, oversleeping equates to a 44 percent increased risk of death while sleeping less than seven hours a day meant a nine percent increased mortality risk. Yes kids, sleeping too much can kill you. We can hear all the parents of teens everywhere right now.
In other depressing news, If you were planning to become, like, oh say a matcha tea drinking fool anytime soon, you may want to reconsider your health aspirations. Green tea, yes the antioxidant-rich wonder drink, has been shown to possibly to possibly impact fertility. Researchers studied the development and reproduction of fruit flies and found that fruit flies and fruit fly embryos and larvae exposed to various amounts of the antioxidants found in green tea experienced a negative impact to both male and female reproductive organs. Before you ask, fruit flies, according to lead author Mahtab Jafari at the University of California, Irvine, share 75% of the disease genes found in humans and even mimic certain human physiology. “Further work is needed to make any definite recommendations, but we suggest that green tea should be consumed in moderation,” said Jafari.
