How to wear purple lipstick. That was the challenge we found ourselves struggling with. Purple lipstick is no doubt beautiful, edgy and sexy but it can be hard to pull off. Where do you even go wearing purple lipstick? And a beautiful purple lipstick for darker skin tones (in this case we specifically mean ethnic skin)? That’s even harder to find…or was, because we found it in OCC “Rollergirl” Matte Lip Tar.
Purple lipstick looks absolutely beautiful on dark skin. You have your true, purples and purples down to your whiteish/dusty-tone lavenders and light purples. We’ve found that the warmer, richer, lavender-based purples look really great on dark skin tones from caramel to deeper, darker skin – think Beyoncé to Gugu Mbatha-Raw. OCC “Rollergirl” Matte Lip Tar is a vibrant lavender purple. If your skin is about the tone of say, Kelly Rowland’s, you’d want to watch out for any whiteness in the purple and go deeper with a richer hue that’s plum based so it does not wash you out-essentially making you look tired and exhausted. MAC Violetta Lipstick is a great choice for a pinkish purple lipstick for darker skin tones. Lighter women can easily pull off purples that have whiter undertones without looking drab but if you want to go with a lighter purple and you have dark skin, balance it with a matte face and a dark brown to and a natural eye with regular black (not khol) liner and a light coat of mascara as to not look to over done if that’s not the look you’re going for.
We tested OCC “Rollergirl” Matte Lip Tar out on a few other skin tones just to show you how beautiful it really is. Stay tuned for the follow up.
