We realize that the world is still ogling over Misty’s Under Armour ads, and though they are quite lovely, her latest interpretive dance video is all we can think about. In two beautiful minutes filled with empowerment vocals by Estelle, the NYC soloist and British vocalist completely fill our hearts. Misty Copeland is that stunningly powerful black ballerina that makes us stand on our tip toes and dance around in the mirror and gleam with pride.
The combined black girl power in this video is absolutely inspiring. Misty’s personal story that saw her battle through a rough childhood and racism and Estelle’s grit to make it in the music industry (an industry that often celebrates straight, silky hair and lighter skin) are immensely encouraging. Currently the third African-American soloist (in 20 years) for the American Ballet Theatre, Estelle celebrates Misty’s hard work and achievements through this collaboration.
Everybody is counting you out
Where are they now
Sitting in the same old place
Just faces in the ground
I’d rather stand tall, than live on my knees
Cause I’m a conqueror, I am a conqueror
“Conqueror” will appear on Estelle’s November 4th release of her new album “True Romance.” #TeamWomen #YouAreBeautiful
