Holiday makeup can seem overwhelming when you find yourself scrambling to do something different. There is the classic red lip and black smokey eye look that’s a staple and undeniably beautiful, but when you’re kind of over it and want something much more simple, that’s when it gets tricky. Do you go for purple or green–all so-called “apropos holiday colors”? Or do you go for something else; something unexpected. We say unexpected. Maybe red lips aren’t for you this year and purple is just too cliche. Maybe a soft pink could do your eyes some service this year. Maybe it’s time to mix things up.

Metallics are currently hot right now and bring a bit of edge to makeup. Pink shadow is not necessarily a classic color and that’s what we like about this look. Finding the right pink is always a challenge though. You don’t want a color to soft for dark skin because it gets ashy, and you don’t want a color so pink it looks clownish.

We found just the right pink in this soft, metallic pink in L’Oreal’s Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner Highlighter in #230. Though its purpose is to serve the beauty world as a highlighter, it’s also the perfect base color for shadow. Silkissime goes on really smooth so it was no feat to prep Dominique’s eyes with the eyeliner pencil. Maybe most people wouldn’t think to use this color all over their lid, but the outcome is really beautiful and fresh. Paired with very clean, minimal foundation and glossy nude lips, this look can be pulled off by almost anyone.

This look is very fresh and clean. Pink shadow may scream spring for some, but we don’t believe in hard and fast seasonal rules when it comes to makeup. Wear what you want when you want. Come to think of it, an unexpected look like this during the winter is a refreshing change up for anyone.
