Lace, satin, and baby-soft cotton. These are the fabrics my lingerie is made of. They are dainty and sophisticated, yet also protects my girly parts. When it comes to washing your delicates especially your bras, you’ve got to take very special care of them. How many times have you accidentally thrown your favorite bra into the wash with your other clothes only to find it warped and shrunken later? Or you’ve got a sweat stain on that white satin bra you like so much and you think it’s ruined forever. The secret to keeping your bras in tip-top shape…do it the old fashioned way and hand wash.
Unlike panties that you can throw in a delicates bag and put in the washing machine, bras need extra TLC. After a few wears, you can see oil stains starting develop on the inside around the band or maybe your bra is starting to getting a little funky under the straps from holding on to left over deodorant. You may save time throwing your bras into the wash but you won’t be happy with the result later. Hand washing with a detergent made especially for delicates is what you should do. I recently picked a bottle of The Laundress Delicate Wash as well as a few tips for washing bras courtesy of The Laundress to make it a little easier for all of us to start hand washing our delicates.
WASH LIKE COLORS TOGETHER
This may seem obvious but sometimes when we’re in a rush we forget the basics.
USE EITHER WARM OR COLD WATER
For light colors, submerge your bras in warm water with a couple squirts of delicate wash. For darker colors use cold water.
USE YOUR HANDS
Use your hands to gently press your bra into the water so you can see suds forming.
SOAK YOUR BRAS OVERNIGHT IF NEEDED
Bras can be soaked overnight, but no longer than 30 minutes for silk.
Rinse well by running room temperature water over your bras until the soapy water is gone.
NEVER WRING DRY
Do not wring out. You can press the excess water out of your bra with a towel. Lay flat or Hang up to dry.
IF YOU MUST MACHINE WASH
If machine washing, use a delicate washing cycle and wash your delicates in a Lingerie Wash Bag (optional). Steam as needed.
Remember to pre-treat any stains first. Gently rub, don’t scrub. Also, never ever put bras in the dryer. They will come out looking like a doll could wear them. Now it may take a bit more time to do your laundry, but hand washing will definitely prolong the life of your delicates. Don’t you want your bras to stay pretty, pretty woman?
