With the rise of Instagram, came the oh so popular and sometimes hated “selfies.” A selfie is really a self portrait – taken normally with the front facing camera on one’s mobile device. I love taking pics of myself. I aways have. It comes from a place of not having many pictures taken of me as a baby. I thought my parents adopted me. I digress.

My blog was an outlet for me to share some of the pics I took of myself and Instagram made it more acceptable to the general public. The only problem is, it’s best to post just one. No one wants to scroll through their feed and see ten pics of you. At least I don’t. So the dilemma of choosing the best one, the perfect one ensues. My camera roll is filled with me making various faces, trying to catch the right angle and light. Should I do a pout? Tyra said smize so let me smize. How do I smize? Maybe a duck face but nah I did that the last selfie. Then there tends to be at least five pics of me growling at the camera because 1. frustration and 2. I think I look cute when I growl but only when the sunlight hits just right.

See, the need to always look on point is why my storage is almost full. I mean should I really care if I look a little off in a pic I post? To the point where we feel the need to let everyone know that the pic we posted (1 of 50 taken) is #nofilter and #nomakeup. I walk around everyday without a filter and most of the time without makeup so who cares?! The want to always look perfect is rubbish. We are not perfect beings. I can look crazy a lot of times so why not look crazy on social media? It’s not that serious. So don’t take it serious. In the meantime, I’ll still have about a million pics of myself because I still want a decent, albeit crazy pic up.
