“It’s just another Manic Monday.” Bleh. This is by far the toughest day of the week. It’s the beginning of what can be a long and stressful string of unfortunate events. I don’t know about you, but the thought of Monday gets me anxious. On Sunday night, I feel that ickiness creeping in. I try not to think about all the tasks I’ll have to tackle once the morning rolls around, but I can’t help it. When my alarm goes off, I know that the day has finally come. Say it ain’t so! Mondays can’t possibly be bad for everyone, can they? Do billionaires dread this day? What about socialites and royalty? There’s got to be some remedy to cure a Case of the Mondays. From personal experience, one of the keys to how to have a good Monday morning is actually having a weekend.
TAKE A BREAK
You might think this is fairly obvious, yet there are so many of us who don’t know how to take a break. We work right through our weekends and wonder why it’s Monday already. In an age where we are constantly connected to our cell phones and computers, it’s tough to tear yourself away from your job. I totally get it, and I’m guilty of this myself. So instead of responding to work emails on a Saturday, wait a couple of days. Just because someone else is thinking about their j-o-b on a weekend doesn’t mean you should be. Also especially if you’re a freelancer, avoid your home office. You’ll be tempted to catch up on little tasks that you neglected during the week or try to plan your upcoming schedule. Don’t do it. Instead, grab a tea or a juice and snuggle up with a book or flip through some magazines. This can give your brain some much needed inspiration even though you’re not actually working.
ENJOY SUNDAY (HOWEVER YOU LIKE)
Enjoy Sunday Fun Day. You don’t have to have an elaborate plan, but make sure you take full advantage of the day. Don’t do the things that are required of you, but do what you want to do. That may mean skipping the family dinner at Grandma’s house. You’ll just have to miss your big sister pointing out your shortcomings at the table while your cousin is canoodling with his newest flavor of the week. No real loss there. Instead, visit a farmer’s market or take a bike ride to get ice cream. Enjoy a little concert in the park. Live it up. And on Sunday night, prepare for the upcoming day with good vibes. Place fresh flowers on your nightstand so that you’ll wake up to something beautiful in the morning.
START YOUR DAY WITH A FOCUS ON YOURSELF/SELF CARE
Start your day with calmness and meditation instead of the usual hurried frenzy. Throughout your Monday, pace yourself. You may have things you need to accomplish, but it won’t all get done in a blink of the eye. And stressing over it won’t make it get done any faster. Do it bit-by-bit and take breaks. Breathe. Remember that Monday is just like any other day. It’s a chance for a fresh start. If you don’t get done what you need to…there’s always tomorrow.
