So you’ve got what, like a gazillion bottles of “frizz serums” laying around and you still have moments when you look like Doc from Back To The Future? It could be because you’re applying your products wrong. By trying to rush and smooth your frizzy hair or by applying your frizz serum or cream in your hands and then starting to apply it to your hair by patting it on top of your head is bound to end up in a fail. Instead try this approach.
HOW TO USE APPLY ANTI-FRIZZ CREAM PROPERLY
Take a nickle to quarter-sized amount (depending on your hair type and density) of frizz serum and rub it in between your palms. Then take a quarter section of hair (it’s important to apply your serum in equal sections) and gently run your fingers and palms through that section focusing on coating your kinks and curls or waves until they good and lightly coated with your product and repeat this for the rest of your hair. While your using your fingers, twirl your curls around your fingers to help with definition as you’re smoothing on your frizz serum. Doing this ensures that you get an even application of frizz serum on your hair instead on in random patches or just concentrated on top. This tip will change things for you and your hair.
As for specific tips on how to get rid of frizzy hair in humid weather (a real challenge, we know as a few of us here are from the deep, dirty south), look for frizz serum products formulated with silicone. Creams can work well in dry heat, think Los Angeles or Arizona, but places like South America, Miami and Jamaica wreck hair in humidity so focus on applying your silicone-based frizz serum to clean, moisturized hair (stay away from glycerin because it’s a frizz magnet) a few hours before you go outside.
You’ll find that it’s best to apply your frizz serum to damp hair as it helps to seal in moisture and soaks into your hair better which yields better results. If your hair is not damp, simply mist it with a light-weight, water-based leave-in conditioner like Nexxus Humectress Luxe Ultimate Moisturizing Leave-In Spray and then apply your frizz serum. If you are going to blow your hair out and or flat iron it, apply your serum after your heat protectant and on hair that’s atleast 75% dry. Once your hair is straight and styled that way you want it follow that up with a anti-humidty aresol spray like Nexxus Frizz Defy Frizz Protection Hair Spray.
Of course before you do any of this you want to make sure you gently squeeze your hair dry with a super absorbent towel. That’s your first step after washing your hair to combating frizz. Microfiber is best but an old white cotton tee shirt will also do. You can even Turbie Twist your hair dry and proceed with styling.
