Not that we need to remind you, but just in case you forgot, the mushroom cut was big in the eighties and nineties. Some may see this cut on Erykah and think they are looking at a mullet but do not be confused. This is a mushroom; similar but very different. These sharp edged cuts and tightly-rolled, pink mesh roller ‘shrooms, that were spin off versions of hair styles that our mothers wore, were proudly worn by legends like MC Lyte to Salt and Peppa. It was these ladies that helped to spawn a craze that had every black girl trying to pair her hammer pants with her mushroom (and rat tail). Back in the day, girls on the block were rocking this style like it was nobodies business. Erykah brought back the mushroom nostalgia with her too sharp cut, making all the late seventies and eighties babies on Twitta get all up in their feels like a Tevin Campbell song. Thank you, Erykah.
