There are makeup looks that work year round and at the same time embody and evoke certain emotions and feels when worn during a particular time of the year. One of those looks is a classic black smokey eye and red lip. This look is an absolute go-to during the holidays. During the holiday season it says, Santa Baby!, holiday party turn up, sexy winter nights and is unabashedly forward. It screams and feels sexy, confident and bold. It also commands attention, so naturally, when Latarsha told us that she was definitely in the mood for classic black smokey eye makeup that’s equally sophisticated, edgy and sexy we were all in to show off just how much attention it commands.

Getting a pretty smokey eye is not as complicated as it may seem. In this case, Latarsha’s eyes are smoked in Diamonds and Coal eyeshadow from the Saucebox Cosmetics Étude Palette. Often smokey eyes are layered in various tones of of grey and black but we wanted to keep this look as simple as possible while still remaining impactful so this beautiful dark charcoal hue is the perfect medium. The key to avoiding raccoon eyes is to apply your smoke before your foundation and take your time applying your shadow which lessens the fallout under and around your eyes. We wanted her lips to be glossy and bright (see what we did there?). We’ve found ourselves a little too comfortable with matte red lips lately, and though they are amazing, we never want to underestimate the beauty of a glossy red lip. MAC Diva finished off with MAC Decorative Lip Glass did the trick and Latarsha’s smile brings it home.

Latarsha’s skin was prepped with MAC Natural Radiance in Yellow Tone and MAC Oil Control Lotion. On her face, Tiffany used MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC42 and Sacha Camouflage Powder in Buttercup. Her cheeks are flushed with MAC Blush in Margin. Her lashes are layered in a few coats of Maybelline Great Lash in Very Black and lined in MAC Eyeliner in Feline.
