It seems like blueberries are old news. They’ve become vintage throwbacks to a time when people actually cared about blueberries. Okay so maybe it isn’t that bad, but there is a newish berry in town (or should we say to our continent) and it’s taking over hipster and wannabe hipseter meals everywhere. You can’t go a block and a half without walking into someone who’s drinking a bottle of A?a? juice. Including us. It tastes good and this antioxidant powerhouse fruit that works amazing wonders on hair and skin. What is a blueberry? We’ve already forgotten.
WHAT IS ACAI?
A?a? (ah-sigh-EE) is a dark purple superfruit that at first glance looks like a blueberry. It is native to the rainforest regions of Central and South America and grows on an Acai palm tree. Known as the “beauty berry” in Brazil, it contains a potent mixture of amino acids, omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids and antioxidants which boots energy and packs more protein than an egg.
ACAI BERRY FOR HAIR GROWTH AND BEAUTIFUL SKIN
Because of the combination of omegas and aminos, A?a? has been shown to improve the look and appearance of hair, skin and nails. A?a? berries also contain magnesium, vitamins A, C, E and B, folic acid and zinc. Vitamins A, C, E and B are required for healthy hair growth and zinc helps to keep your roots strong and your scalp healthy which in turns helps minimize thinning hair. Magnesium works in our bodies by helping to regulate calcium levels. When our calcium is too high, we can experience hair loss.
WHERE TO BUY ACAI BERRY-BASED PRODUCTS
OGX Nutritional Acai Berry Avocado Shampoo and OGX Nutritional Acai Berry Avocado Conditioner are both formulated with A?a?. We really like this shampoo and conditioner a whole lot. The slip is really good and it leaves our hair feeling so fresh and kinda luxurious…If you close your eyes and inhale just long enough, you can hear monkeys playing off deep into the rain forest. In reality, It does not strip our curls and the smell is absolutely amaze. It smells like sweet Acai berries and makes us think of summer. We like OGX products because you can get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to caring for your hair with healthy plant-based ingredients.
Of course, the best way to ingest A?a? is by eating it. You can find A?a? juice in the refrigerated sections of your grocery store and the dried fruit at almost any health store. But watch out, as many drink products have lots of added cane or corn sugar so try to find an organic, agave-based sweetened drink like Sambazon Acai (which is also sold at Target). We also like to add Sambazon Authentic Organic Freeze Dried Acai to our morning breakfast smoothies. You can also find A?a? supplements in some stores but just like the drinks, read your labels and look for supplements that are not overly processed.
